Efficient Commercial HVAC Systems Reduce Operating Costs

Efficient Commercial HVAC Systems Reduce Operating Costs

Facility managers and property managers are always looking for new ways to improve the efficiency of their commercial HVAC systems in order to reduce the operating costs of their commercial HVAC systems.

Facility managers and property managers are always looking for new ways to improve the efficiency of their commercial HVAC systems in order to reduce the operating costs of their commercial HVAC systems. Energy efficiency is especially important on the hottest days of the summer when excellent cooling is most necessary. How do you maximize the effectiveness of your commercial HVAC systems? Some specialized components can be integrated into your systems to help get the most out of them. Here is some more information about these elements to consider for your building.

Improving Airflow

Consider integrating terminal units into your existing commercial HVAC systems. These units can make your employees more comfortable while enhancing the quality of the airflow in the building. Improved airflow also means that the systems don’t have to work as hard, using less energy. While outdated systems might only distribute a set amount of cooled or heated air into a room, terminal units can distribute different amounts of air into a room based on need. More up to date systems work more efficiently, and more efficient operation means less money spent unnecessarily.

Terminal units get installed on system ductwork close to each room of your building. The terminal units also work with thermostats for each room as well. How does this work? The terminal units communicate with the thermostats, and the thermostats will open and close dampeners. These dampeners can release less cold air into a room, so each room can have a different level of airflow as needed. Improved airflow and less energy consumption means you save money.

Improving Overall Comfort

Another method for reducing operating costs is to improve overall comfort. Improving how comfortable the building is can be achieved by implementing underfloor air distribution. However, this method is easier to implement in a new facility under construction than to modify an existing building. Instead of relying on overhead configurations, the air ducts are built-in underneath the floor. Integrating terminal units under the floor is also possible, but only if fans power them. Diffusers are then used to circulate the air from the floor and into the room. Due to the improved efficiency of this method, you can set thermostats higher. You can also install power and network cables underneath the floor, possibly facilitating building automation.

Using Building Automation

Building automation is another possibility for reducing operating costs through improved efficiency. Automated lighting is one method to integrate building automation. Automatic lights can switch on when a room is in use, and turn the lights off once the room is unoccupied. Building automation can also connect automated lighting with commercial HVAC systems. Once connected, these two systems can interface to distribute the proper amount of air into a room as it is needed.

Performing Preventative Maintenance

Never forget or underestimate the importance of preventative maintenance. Even the most up to date equipment in your commercial HVAC systems need to be kept in top condition. Regularly scheduled and thorough maintenance can ensure that your HVAC systems remain as energy efficient as possible. By improving airflow, improving overall comfort, and using building automation, you can reduce operation costs, allowing you to reallocate funds to more actively support your business.
