As temperatures linger in the upper 80s and low 90s with no end in sight, it doesn’t feel as though fall is almost here. But summer is ending, and that means the change in seasons will affect your commercial HVAC system. Here are some useful tips on how to get it ready for fall.
Put in New Filters
Replace the filters in your commercial HVAC unit as needed. Most companies will change them out every few months, but due to high summer temperatures, your commercial HVAC system might be overworked and be in need of preventative maintenance to avoid a total breakdown.
When your air filters are too dirty, they won’t run as efficiently. This results in higher energy bills, but the inhabitants of your building will be unhappy. After new filters have been installed, continue to monitor their condition. A higher incidence of clogs in your filters means you will need to change how frequently you put fresh filters in.
Adjust the Thermostat
Fall is a colder and brisker time of year than summer is. That means you won’t need as much air conditioning running inside your building to keep your employees and customers comfortable. But in Maryland, hot and humid weather can persist until late November and sometimes, even to the end of the year.
In any case, you should adjust the thermostat attached to your commercial HVAC unit. If you fail to adjust the thermostat, every room of your building can still feel cold even when temperatures start to drop. Put a thermometer next to the thermostat for comparison to see if the changes in heating and cooling are actually taking effect. If nothing is happening, then it may be a sign you need more rigorous inspection and maintenance.
Clean the Air Ducts
However, it’s also possible that you need to clean out the ductwork connected to your commercial HVAC system. As the seasons begin to turn, you need to be sure that the ducts are kept clean. Cleaner air ducts contribute to higher indoor air quality or IAQ. Contaminants such as dust, dirt, insulation fibers, and mold can make everyone feel miserable even when they don’t realize, so be sure to get rid of all possible sources of debris.
Schedule Regular Inspections
It’s also essential to schedule regular inspections for your commercial HVAC unit. That way, you can ensure that your commercial HVAC unit is functioning properly and that there aren’t any critical problems that will affect the system as a whole. It’s best to do this before fall and winter weather arrive in earnest, so don’t hesitate to reach out to your trusted preventative maintenance partner!
