It takes a lot of behind the scenes efforts to prepare for the Presidential Inauguration with all of the festivities planned – the Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony, Inaugural Address, Inaugural Parade, many inaugural balls, galas and other events. As can be imagined, this huge undertaking requires a dedicated team, including 550 people working for the Presidential Inaugural Committee, 1,300 members of the military in support roles, countless security officials, police and Secret Security – and the help of Crockett Facilities Services. Our staff will be on site to manage the building operations at the Wilson building, which will host receptions throughout the day for 1,000 dignitaries, council members and mayors.
Our facilities maintenance team is playing an integral part to get ready for the big day. We are helping with the Inauguration Parade set-up, providing power to the viewing platform. Our job at the Wilson building is to make sure the elevators, electricity, lighting, heating and air conditioning – basically that all the mechanical equipment is the building is functioning properly, so the dignitaries are comfortable and any special requests are accommodated. This is nothing new to us, as we manage all the building operations, equipment maintenance, HVAC and custodial functions for the building on a daily basis.
The Wilson building, located just 2 blocks from the White House on Pennsylvania Ave. NW, has housed the local government since July 4, 1908. It serves as the seat for local government housing the Executive Offices of the Mayor, the Council of the District of Columbia, the Chief Financial Officer, the Office of the Attorney General, along with other District Agencies. The building is a symbol of civic pride and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
