The year 2021 has seen a notable trial for countless industries worldwide; namely, it is a rise in supply chain shortages. From spring 2021 into the foreseeable future, many industries have coped with the famous microchip shortage. The automobile, gaming, and HVAC industries rely on semiconductors for manufacturing and repairs. Crockett Facilities gives you the latest report on HVAC supply chain shortages and what one might expect for the future.
2021 Supply Chain Crisis
Since the early spring of 2021, HVAC companies have felt the impact of HVAC supply chain shortages, especially when it comes to microchips. The majority of these parts come from overseas, and due to inflated prices of raw materials like copper, aluminum, and steel, the increased demand for machinery from remote workers and a record-setting hot summer in the west, and ship bottlenecks at west coast ports, HVAC companies have been hard-pressed to get the supplies they need for their customers. Add to these elements the labor shortage, and it becomes even harder for manufacturers to produce and deliver goods.
December Update
The height of the HVAC supply chain shortages appeared to be during the summer of 2021, especially as the demand for new air conditioners rose and installation companies had a harder time sourcing them. Due to the numerous cuts in labor and travel in 2020 and the inflated prices of raw materials, December still sees increased prices in HVAC parts and a projected shortage of copper, steel, etc., into 2023. Intel plans to build new microchip factories in North America, but it will take two years for those factories to be complete.
How the HVAC Industry Is Adapting
HVAC companies have adapted well to the trying times, and customers are as well. Supply chain shortages are prevalent, many different industries reporting the same issues to their customers. HVAC installation and repair businesses have dealt with these shortages by diversifying their suppliers, making strategic inventory purchases, and continuing to strive for strong communication with their suppliers and customers.
